Hi my name is Joan and I’m a documentary wedding photographer based in and around London, Hertfordshire and the surrounding counties. I'm passionate about photography and I pride myself in using a documentary style to shoot weddings, which I believe is the best way to capture the raw and candid emotions of the day which would otherwise be forgotten using a more traditional approach.
I've been interested in photography for as long as I can remember, and I will never get bored of the joy that it brings me. Capturing the magic in those all important moments, whether big or small is what truly motivates me. Photography is the story in pictures that I would fail to put into words if I tried; I don’t shoot what “it looks like” but what “it feels like”.
For any techies out there, I use Canon 5D MkIII bodies with 24mm, 50mm and 135mm prime lenses, which for me is the most compromise free option that provides super sharp, colour rich, beautiful photographs.
Before you read on I want to say a huge thank you to my friend and mentor Paul Rogers who I have been working with for some time now and I am so grateful for all the advice he has given me. Paul is a truly inspirational photographer and I look forward to working with him more in the coming years.
I was born in France and after moving to various other locations in my home country I spent several years in Brive La Gaillarde, which is where I lived before moving to the UK. Many of my family holidays were spent in the beautiful town of Biarritz, where I spent a lot of time with my late Grandfather (That’s him with me when I was a little girl...not too many years ago!) who was a keen photographer as well as my Uncle, Christian Koeler who is a fantastic street photographer who produces amazing black and white images from around the world.
I moved to the UK in 2005 shortly before I married my husband Peter and we have two boys who are always keen to have their photos taken...honest!-) I have been taking professional photos for several years now and truly relish the opportunity to document a beautiful wedding day or to capture some family shots that will be treasured.
